Insight Check-In

Check-In Setup Guide

District IT instructions for deploying Insight Check-In across your school.

Grades 3–8: Chromebook / SSO

Students in grades 3–8 sign in with their school Google or Microsoft account. No separate password needed.

  1. In Google Admin Console, go to Devices → Chrome → Apps & Extensions → Users & Browsers.
  2. Add a new URL: https://insightmtss.com/checkin — set to 'Force install' for the target OU.
  3. Optionally pin it as a startup tab: Devices → Chrome → Settings → User & Browser Settings → Startup pages.
  4. Students will see the check-in automatically when they open Chrome during the morning window.

PWA install (optional)

Students can also install Insight Check-In as a PWA from the browser address bar. It works offline and opens in standalone mode without browser chrome.

K–2: Shared Classroom Tablet (Kiosk Mode)

For K–2 classrooms, set up one shared tablet per classroom in kiosk mode. Students tap their photo, then a picture password — no typing required.

  1. On an iPad: Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access. Set the start URL to https://insightmtss.com/checkin.
  2. On an Android tablet: use Android Kiosk Mode or a MDM tool (Jamf, Mosyle, Meraki) to lock to the check-in URL.
  3. Set the device to auto-launch the check-in URL at the start of the morning window.
  4. The session ends automatically after each student submits. The next student taps their photo to begin.

Morning Window

The check-in is available once per school day during a district-configured morning window (e.g., 7:45–8:30 AM).

  • Students who attempt to check in outside the window see a friendly 'Come back tomorrow' message.
  • Each student can only submit once per day — duplicate submissions return a 409 and show the 'Already done' screen.
  • Window hours are configured in the district settings panel in the Insight MTSS admin app.

Privacy & Compliance

  • No ads, no trackers, no third-party analytics scripts on the check-in page.
  • Only check-in answers are collected. No device fingerprinting, no location data.
  • All staff views of student answers are audit-logged per FERPA and Illinois SOPPA.
  • Parents receive PPRA notice and an opt-out/consent form before first use. They can view the questions at any time at /checkin/questions.

Spanish Language Support

Students can switch to Spanish at any time using the language toggle in the top-right corner of the check-in screen. The toggle is available on every question screen and persists for the session.
